Climate & weather in Barcelona
Barcelona enjoys a glorious amount of sunshine throughout the year with chart topping levels of 30” plus from May through to the beginning of August. Cooler 20” plus levels are seen from September to November as average levels of 10” plus take you through the winter.
It is advised to take a good sunscreen, for any trip to Barcelona regardless of the season
Crime in Spain
Overall Barcelona is a safe city where violent crimes are rear, but like all major European cities the Catalonia city suffers from petty theft. Pickpockets, snatch and grabs do happen so be mindful when in large crowded areas like the La Rambla and when using the subway and when in bars and restaurants, keep you bags on your laps.
Religion in Spain
Just under 70% of Spaniards are Catholic and this is something that people take very seriously indeed, just walking into a catholic church is testament to that as these buildings in themselves could be museums in their own right.
Languages & foreign languages in Barcelona
While Catalan is the language of Barcelona, most people would only use this language at home with family. Instead the more widely understood Spanish is used. Because Barcelona is a tourism hotspot, most people working in the tourism sector, and some younger people usually speak some English
Smoking in Spain
As of 2006 Spain had a partial restriction upon smoking in public places. In 2011, this was upgraded to restrictions in all indoor public places, including restaurants, bars and cafés while hotels can designate 30% of their rooms to smokers.
Tipping Etiquette in Barcelona
Tipping in Spain is all about service. In a restaurant you would tip around 10% for good service. A taxi driver would, if you’re happy, be rounded up to the nearest Euro and for a Tour guide you could tip a Euro per person.
WI-FI internet connections in Barcelona
Barcelona has a WiFi system called “Barcelona WiFI”, it is a City Council service that lets you connect to the Internet via WiFi access points and hotspots throughout the city for free. It is the biggest free public WiFi network in Spain and coincidently one of the biggest in Europe.
